Morning Musume。´14 and guitars

In 2014, each H!P group had the opportunity to make their own digital photo book as part of the au Book Pass campaign. Each group got to choose their own theme, and would take photos and choose which pictures to use. The theme chosen by the Musume was 'Bunkasai Joshi' - 'Liberal Arts Girls'. Along with that, each of the then-five groups were also interviewed about the process. Here's an excerpt from Morning Musume。´14's interview.

Sato　It was my first time holding a guitar, and I thought that it was heavy. I can't play it at all, so if I'm able to play the guitar someday, I'd like to try playing a song composed by Tsunku♂-san.

──Singing to your own accompaniment？

Sato　Yup. When the day comes where I'm able to do it, I'd like to surprise people, make them go, 'Eh, Is that Maachan playing the guitar?'

Morning Musume。´15 Nationwide Simultaneous Handshake Events: Wrap-up

With the release of their new single, Seishun Kozou ga Naiteiru / Yuugure ha Ameagari / Ima Koko Kara , Morning Musume。´15 would once again be holding nationwide simultaneous handshake events to promote it. As usual, we also have an associated video to let us know who would be going where.



The girls were actually informed that they would be recording comments on their new single for a TV programme. Having made their comments about the new single, an announcement suddenly plays, informing them about where they'd be holding the events. Unlike previous occasions, where their destinations were determined by the luck of the draw, this time, their destinations had been predetermined and it was more a matter of informing them. This would give each member an opportunity to do home town promotions on at least one of the two days.

Also, the voice over was done by Juice=Juice's Miyazaki Yuka. We can't let Karin-chan be the only Juice to hog MM'15 video time, after all.

H!P Summer 2014 KOREZO: Share it if you like it (Part IV - 3 Aug)

For the KOREZO! performances held during the current Hello! Con (Summer 2014), there's a corner where the girls can bring up photos they want to highlight. A  Facebook page has been set up, entitled 'Hello! Pro Ki ni Ittara Share'. (H!P Share it if you like it).

Taken on an aeroplane、 this photo shows Takagi Sayuki messing around with the children sitting in the seats in front of her、 wanting to befriend them。
She was getting no response to her questions、  and this was taken just as she was trying to lure them in with a banana-shaped pouch。
She couldn't befriend them in the end、 but on the return flight, a child picked up some 「sweets」 she dropped、 and they were happy when they were told 「You can have them！」。
Miyazaki's statement:「Such a happy child」。

Morning Musume。＇１４'s Michishige Sayumi

Iikubo Haruna (19), Ikuta Erina (16), and Michishige Sayumi (24) from Morning Musume＇１４ appeared on MBS Radio 'Youngtown Doyoubi' hosted by personality Akashiya Sanma (58) on the 31st. Iikubo and Ikuta complained that, compared to leader Michishige, they had no work.

The two of them started of by mentioning to Sanma 'Michishige-san has work, but...', making an appeal for their work-free schedules, 'For us, these 4 days, we haven't had anything besides voice training', 'Looking at our schedule, we've got many free days'. They revealed that they were perplexed by 'In a year, we've got so many resting days'.

Sanma tried to cheer them up by saying 'It's hard-earned, so isn't it great, you could go on (overseas) trips'.

In addition, the eldest Michishige Sayumi will be graduating from MoMusu。 in the autumn tour.

Today's broadcast was recorded in the capital in the 30th. Sanma touched upon the topic of the AKB48 handshake event assault on the 25th, where Michishige and the rest discussed, 'They got through despite all the precautions', 'It's grave, due to a lone person (the perpetrator)'.

―― Firstly, we'd like to hear about the first of your two songs from the double A single 「Toki wo Koe Sora wo Koe」 (Crossing time, crossing space)！ What sort of song is it？
【Ikuta Erina】　With such a grand title (laughs), I think that this song that is able to evoke a response in everyone. It's packed with tons of lyrics such as 'On days when you're lonely and can't sleep, it's okay to cry,' impressive lyrics that can open up your mind. 

【Ishida Ayumi】 Normally, when we tell the audience that we'll be performing our latest song, all the fans would obstinately try to dance along together with us. But when it comes to this song, all of them listen to it carefully, even though they've already seen us perform it at concerts [and thus would have been able to follow along with the dance]. 

【Fukumura Mizuki】　That hasn't happened before. I think that this song really does cross time. As Eripon (Ikuta) mentioned, there are plenty of lyrics that can resonate with the listener. At the same time, the lyrics seem to talk about the future. The music video (MV) is like that as well, and this amazing 'sense of space' comes out during the concerts! Even the dance looks like we're moving in water, bringing to mind a sense of us floating in zero gravity。

MM'14 nationwide 10 location simultaneous handshake event: Wrap-up

For their nationwide 10 location simultaneous handshake event, held on the 2nd of April, the MM'14 girls had a drawing the other day to decide where they'd be going.

As a fresh (and arguably less popular) Musume at the time, Oda gets assigned a rural town, but 2ch bands together to make it a reasonably well attended handshake event. MM'14's junior high graduates: Thoughts on graduation, and their memorable items

Sayashi Riho

Actually, when I entered junior high, I thought that an enjoyable student life was waiting for me (laughs). I think it ended up becoming a work-centred lifestyle... But, when I'm at my wit's end with work, I'm given encouragement through soothing letters from my friends at school, so I'm grateful. Now, I think I'm currently in a state where I don't want to part with my friends. In these three years in junior high, something that holds a lot of memories for me was getting to release a solo photo book every year. They've become like albums of my high school life, and it's interesting getting to understand how my appearance and facial expressions have changed (laughs). My favourite subject is Japanese. It's easy for me to score even though I don't really study, since I also like kanji from the outset. On the other hand, the one I'm no good with is English, I can't really get the grammar... I think it would be cool if Morning Musume '14 could talk in English, but the possibility of myself having to shoulder that role is pretty unlikely (laughs). Becoming a high school student, I want even more to finish off getting to sixth-dan in calligraphy. I'll re-learn it from the beginning, and I'd like to get a licence and wield it myself!

Memorable goods from your junior high life

Civics Notebook

☆ The self-decorated civics notebook I use. Since I like taking down notes, I'm particular about my notebook's design! By the way, note the drawing on the left side of the front cover that has become blurry, it's from my drool dripping on it when I slept on the notebook (laughs).

Suzuki Kanon

The study camp in my 1st year、the field trip to Nara, Kyoto in my 3rd year、 I'm glad that I was able to participate completely in the both of them。It might not be anything beyond the norm、 but we chatted until late at night、 and if the sensei came around we'd pull the futons over ourselves and pretend to be asleep（lol）。 As I went up in school years、 the number of my friends who said they liked Morning Musume。 increased！  Their furi-copy was perfect as well。 My favourite subjects were social studies and cleaning （lol）。 Though I don't like cleaning at home because I have to use a vacuum cleaner、 it feels good when everyone puts together their strength to move the desks、 and uses brooms to sweep the trash up into one spot! It gives you a sense of accomplishment。 Mathematics was my weak spot、 and often in class I'd just spaーce out and gaze outside through the window、 and the sensei would get mad （lol）。 I'd like to get a qualification once I get into high school。 Though I still haven't decided what it should be in、 it's for the sake of my life in the future （lol）、 and I'd like to challenge myself to all sorts of things。 Speaking of graduation songs、 it's got to be 「Never Forget」！ Although I have yet to sing it at a live performance、it's a song that I associate with、 Morning Musume。's graduation performances。

Strap

☆ This strap、 it's also owned by my close friends。 It's something that we all bought the first time we went to Disney Sea、 and normally we'll have it strapped to the bag that we go to school with、 and the 3 of us attend school with it attached。

Oda Sakura

Junior high school、 I loved it。 I particularly liked the 3rd years from when I was in 1st year、 since my brother was in the 3rd year、 I was always told that "Oda's little sister is cute"。 Me、 I was on the committee for enforcement of school regulations from junior 1、 so I ended up warning the senpai。 I'm sure that it was troublesome for the friends around me （lol）。  An event that left a deep impression was、 though there were many questions at the 3rd year chorus festival、 everyone put their strengths together and we managed to receive the merit award！ My favourite subject、 home economics。 I joined the home economics club、 and since we would cook or make handicrafts 2 times a week 、in classes my friends would often ask me how to use the sewing machine or a how to use a knife。 I'm no good with English。 The reason might be because the teachers kept on changing due to various circumstances。 Starting from spring、 I'm thinking of properly studying music from now。 I'd like to be able to play the guitar、 and I'd also like to study Western music and be able to sing it。 The graduation song I recommend、 would be Matsuura Aya-san's 「Egao ni Namida」。 A lot of the lyrics let you empathise with the theme of graduation in the song。

Pouch, hand cream

☆ It's a pouch exclusively for my coloured pens。 I obviously use them when I'm writing letters to friends from school、 and I use them for work as well！ The hand cream has a lavender aroma。 As lavender is my image colour、it pleases me and I use it at school。

It's MoMusu vs their fans!

Introducing the fans:
The walking MoMusu databank, Hasegawa. He has collections of magazines, sorted on his iPad. And he collects their TV appearances - 15 years over 700 DVDs.
MoMusu look-up queen Narusawa. She'll check out their blogs for 3 hours daily. She has confidence with Michishige-related questions.
Then we have Tokyo U graduate, MoMusu master Ueno. Maths teacher at a prep school. He's complied about 600 self-made questions about MoMusu.

Set-up:
The pros will ask trivia questions. The fans have to answer 4 to win, but they lose if they get 4 wrong. But there is also a special rule - there are questions for which there is no correct answer, or the question itself is wrong. In order to get those questions correct, the fans will have to choose to keep silent.

Q1. Up to now, there have been 34 members in Morning Musume. Among all those members, there is one month in which no member celebrates their birthday. Which month is it?
A1. This is actually a Silent question.

The fans note the birthdays of the MM in front of them, commenting that they're born in the summer months.
Ishida is in Jan, Mikitty in Feb, Oda-chan March. Ueno's satisfied face at recalling that last one makes everyone laugh.
They decided to answer 'April'. And get it wrong.
It's pointed out that Yoshizawa Hitomi is the April member. To their credit, April's the only month with only one representative. The fans apologise.

Q2. A brief clip of a concert carried out at the Budokan will be played. Name all of the members who participated in that concert.
The clip is one of Yaguchi going 'Sexy Beam!~' for about 2 seconds.
A2. It's the 2000 Autumn Ichii Sayaka graduation concert, Dancing Love Site, and the 1st concert appearance of the 4th gen. 
Nakazawa, Iida, Abe, Yaguchi, Yasuda, Ichii, Gomaki, Tsuji, Kago, Charmy, Yossie.

Hasegawa narrows it down based on Budokan performances, since there are limited numbers of those.
Yaguchi left in 2005. 1st Budokan was in 2000, there none in 2001 or 2002, and the next one was Ishikawa's grad in 2005, after Yaguchi left, which leaves 2000.
And with that, the girls ask him jokingly to stop his smug smile of satisfaction.
They then choose to answer, giving out the tour name and listing down all 11(!) members participating in that concert.

Eripon suggests trying something beyond MM and venturing into H!P.
Q3. Please name all 7 shuffle units that were on the 2009 album "Champloo 1"

The fans name all 7 without a hitch. Narusawa mentions that she loves Zoku Biyuuden.

A4. This is actually a silent question, since the iPhone she was holding in photo C was borrowed (from RihoRiho)

Narusawa can generally line up the other cases with the songs - the B was around Ai no Gundan, the Cinamonroll in D is quite early, and the bears in A - but she doesn't have confidence in C.
They choose to answer, which means that they've got it wrong already. They do get the true ones in correct order though.
Looks like knowing too much doesn't help XD

Q5. We will play 5 MM songs at the same time. Please name them.
A5. It's silent, there's a S/mileage song included

And the fans keep silent, getting their 3rd point.
Iida points out that it's an embarrassment to get to the stage where they're one away from losing.

A6. Aichan -> Yossie -> Fukuhime & Harunan -> Yaguchi -> Yasuda -> Mikitty -> Gaki

They miss out Yaguchi and Mikitty, though they do get the ones they mentioned in the correct order

A7. 2010's Rival Survival

Host: I have no idea. (snaps head towards fans) Do you guys actually know?
They agree that the voice at the start was Ai-chan's. {Not exactly helpful, longest tenure as leader and all.} And Hasegawa points out that the Yokohama Arena concert was in 2010. Tsuji's already hanging her head. Heck, they don't just get it correct, they throw in the concert title as well.

- By the way, as this week's Sunday is the Valentine's issue, what are your memories of Valentine's?
Sayashi: For us, the members mutually exchange chocolates. One time, I made chocolate pie. Despite working hard at making it from the morning, it ended up looking horrible... I cried...
All: Ahahaha
Sayashi: I'll never make it again!
Kudou: Speaking of Valentine's, my younger brother's pretty popular, and since he gets tons, I'm always the one in charge of eating them¹ (lol)
Michishige: For Sayumi, when I was in primary 4th, for the sake of exchanging them with the girls², I brought chocolates to school even though they were prohibited. But, when I was thinking of bringing along the chocolate, I ended up really wanting to have some chocolate, so I quietly ate some. Then, saying that I smelled of chocolate, the sensei discovered it and they were confiscated (cry).
Sayashi: Leader, that's funny
- No stories about guys turned up.
Fukumura: After all, in reality we love nothing but Hello! Pro! That feeling of love is extremely strong (lol)
Michishige: There are other things we like as well!
Fukumura: Ah-, like lift buttons? I LOVE buttons that look round and gothic!
Kudou: I LOVE Komaba Ichirou from "Silver Spoon"!
Michishige: For Sayumi, a person devoted to Sayumi would be great. A person who persists! A person who won't drift to the young ones³  (lol)

¹ Slight ambiguity issue - Duu doesn't actually say that it's her, so it's entirely possible that the brother is the person who is 'always the one in charge of eating the chocolates'. In fact, that might be the more prudent translation. However, given that it's a transcript, and I can imagine how it's possible to interpret it that way given that it was originally spoken, I chose the more compelling story.
² But I thought Sayu's only friends when she was small were pill bugs

Member of idol group Morning Musume 。'14 Sayashi Riho talked enthusiastically about "Overthrowing・AKB48”.

The group changed its name this year,  and MoMusu。is now making another break for themselves. That MoMusu。 will be adorning the cover of girl's music magazine 『GiRLPOP 2014 SPRING』(M-On! Entertainment), on sale the 7th, and in it, Sayashi responded in the interview, "For me, I think I want to change the history of the idol world. I think it's amazing how currently the age of AKB48 has continued on for quite a number of years, but because I think 'wouldn't it be great to gradually enter a new era', I want to work hard to alter that history," along with the burning ambition to  "recapture the throne", "Since I think that there isn't another idol group who can continue their history while replacing their members, leveraging on that characteristic, I think we want to stir up a new generation of the idol world," she told us of her goal from now on.

Along with the release of their new single 「Egao no Kimi ha Taiyou sa／ Kimi no Kawari ha Iyashinai／What is LOVE？」 on the 29th of last month, which took the first place in the Oricon weekly ranking when it made its chart début, the group achieved their first 4-consecutive first places record. The record held from the time Abe Natsumi, Goto Maki were members was broken, so can the the presence of this MoMusu。, displaying all of their vigour, stand at the summit of the rival-packed idol world, commencing with AKB and MomoClo ――。

She's very stable。Furthermore、 it feels like she's steadily made progress up to now。
Similar to Sayashi and Ishida、 she's the type who actively enters into the dance scenes。
Since she makes large movements、 it's also very forceful。
Since there are a lot of slender members、 I think in the eyes of the guests at lives、Fukumura's dynamic movements will stand out 。

【Ikuta Erina（16）】＜Aiming to be the world's number one idol！　Successor of the lime-green＞
The Ikuta of recent times is great。  Her movements are sharp。
 She's blessed in a physical way。
Speaking of that、I just recently found out that she's able to do handsprings。
Perhaps、there's a chance that I'll make a feature of that move。
Ikuta's fans, please hope for it （lol）。

【Sayashi Riho（15）】＜No questions asked, the absolute ace！ 　Child of the dance gods＞
From the auditions, her dancing was extraordinarily good。
She's a member that I can entrust and feel secure with。
Therefore、 I don't have anything in particular to say （lol）。
Sayashi、 I think she's definitely the one who'll attract the most attention wherever she is。
Anyway, she herself dances with a good feeling、 so watching it gives you a sort of refreshing feeling。

【Ishida Ayumi（16）】　＜Her dance ability is authentic！　Dancer of the forest＞
Of course, Ishida's dancing is good。
She's also got a lot of experience。Of that、 I believe that everyone knows。
But to me、 she's skilled、 but I expected more。
What I want from Ishida is something explosive that goes beyond skilled・unskilled。
I want her to give something to the customers、 something that will make their heart feel like it's trembling。

Actually, I resisted when they wanted me to dye my hair to a way lighter colour.

Initially Tsunku♂-san’s advice was that if I’m going to dye it brown,

he said「Why don’t you try making it lighter？」。It continued for three times, and it definitely made me uneasy when I was told 「Is it alright to go even lighter」 the third time。 Despite that、 I went back to a tone darker after that （lol）。

Actually、I can normally play「Natsumatsuri」 on Taiko no Tatsujin at Oni (diifculty)。At best、  I  won’t even make a mistake。But I’ve never said it in front of Mizuki。 After all, taking over someone’s special skill isn’t good、but when a member announces her special skill、even though I want to say that I can do it too, I have to refrain from saying it。 I think that I want to let them show of their skill。

Notes: It's almost gender-neutral, except for two points:
1. The fake nails suggest that it's most likely from a female POV
2. "Did you flirt with that person?" - The word used for 'that person' is 'anoko', which I think is generally used for girls or small boys.

So it's a story of a person who's just got her heart broken - because her lover was checking out another person. Slightly possessive that.
Still, I can imagine RihoRiho getting so worked up about not being the sole object of her partner's desire that she wouldn't forgive her partner (or even herself) that she feels hurt from it. Ah, RihoRiho, such an M.

Stil, I like the arrangement of the song - it's partly minimalistic, and when it builds up, it matches the emotion. Lovely piano backing. And harmonies. Knowing the lyrics adds even more depth.
