Berryz Kobo x ℃-ute Cross Talk: Natsuyaki Miyabi x Sugaya Risako

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Hello! Project Kids in 2012, a book entitled Rival - 12 shoujo no 10-nen monogatari - (The 10-year legend of the 12 girls) was released. The book contains 2-page discussions between various pairings of the girls, covering all 66 possible combinations. In the process of reading this book, I'll be putting up some highlights as I read through the interviews.

Natsuyaki Miyabi X Sugaya Risako

Were you close since 10 years ago?

Natsuyaki: That's right. Even the fans said that 'Risako and Miya are always together', and if you were to look at photos from the past, there really are a lot that capture the 2 of us, we were together so much that we really were like sisters. I think it's amazing that we've continued that way since we were small.

Sugaya: In Berryz Kobo, I really get spoiled by Captain and Miya. Captain spoils me, but Miya would say 'Do it properly!, just like an oneechan.

Natsuyaki: When I'm mad, I'm mad. Like 'Risako, that's no good', in a serious tone.

Sugaya: You'd scold me, but you'd also listen to what I had to say and sympathise with me. I'm the oldest girl at home, so I think it would be really great to have an oneechan like this.

Sugaya: It's inconceivable to do a concert without Miya. When Miya took a break from concerts due to illness (Berryz Kobo concert tour 2012 spring ~Berryz Station~), I really felt like crying midway through. Because Berryz Kobo is the 7 of us, and the lack of mood-maker Miya was huge. Backstage, even without Miya around, it was still noisy though (laughs), but it was really sad to realise that I couldn't hear Miya's voice...... It was really sad..... (*cries*)

Natsuyaki: Risako~, don't cry (laughs).

Sugaya: I'll always love you, and with you missing just once, I was reminded once again about how truly precious you are.

Natsuyaki: The part of you that can say such things so frankly is adorable as well. You really are like a little sister.

So, from the eyes of the onee-chan, what sort of guy do you think would suit Risako-chan.

Natsuyaki: From the eyes of an onee-chan (laughs), I think that a gentle man would suit her. Risako is strong-minded, so she'd clash with a strong-willed partner and immediately break up.

Sugaya: Yup, that's right.

Natsuyaki: And so, it'd have to be a person who's gentle, who'll carefully accept Risako's feelings. Risako is someone who easily blows her top, so someone who'd fit her would listen to her and calm her down, even when they get into fights.

Sugaya: I'd probably be so strong-minded that we'd constantly be in fights, like any single word that's said wrong would lead to a fight, it'd be tiring. It's got to be someone who's understanding, we'd be companions with mutual respect for one another.

Sugaya: I think that Miya likes to make memories. So it'd be someone who'd go along with her, who'd have fun together with her. I think that someone who goes with the flow would be good, like 'The weather's good today, let's go to the sea'.

Natsuyaki: That's right. Fundamentally, I enjoy being outside, so a person who says 'Let's go' when they think about going out would be great. Every day doesn't need to be as exciting, but a person who' s got fire would be ideal. I love fun things, so so they'd go something like 'Right, let's go to the amusement park now!'

The two of you definitely understand one another. So, what sort of mothers would you turn out to be?

Natsuyaki: I want to become a Mama who's surrounded by kids. About 5, I guess.

Sugaya: That's tough (laughs)!

Natsuyaki: I think that I'll be good at bringing up children, so I think I'll be a level-headed Mama even with lots of them. It'll be a lively household. Like 'I LOVE family'.

Natsuyaki: I'd like to always support Risako as a singer. You're particularly good at ballades, which move me, there are lots of times when I go 'I love how Risako pulled off that phrase'. Even if I wasn't in this line of work, I think that I'd surely be a Risako fan as a normal person.

Sugaya: I think that Miya's performing ability has really gone up as well. You were good at dancing from the past, but there are expressions that only Miya can pull off, and there are times when my eyes get glued to her, thinking 'You can use that sort of expression in this song'.

While you are like sisters, you also acknowledge one another as artistes. In the future, is there anything that you'd like to request from one another, not just limited to singing?

Natsuyaki: I want you to come out with a ballad album. Because I think that even with a cover of a single song, Risako's charms will really be brought out. Even at the solo events held before, it was like I thought that it would be fine even if it were all ballades. If there was an event like that, I'd really like to go as a member of the audience.

Sugaya: I like Miya on-stage as well, but I want you to do fashion-related work. Every time, the things you wear are adorable, and they're never from the exact same genre, because you'll go with a stylish theme to go with the day. I want you to start your own brand someday. I'll definitely go shopping there.

Natsuyaki: If that happens, I'll ask for your autograph. I'll put it up at the store.

Sugaya: Ahahahaha, wouldn't that be like a ramen store (laughs).

  1. Why. This is the most sensible talk in these. They compliment each other so well, this is truest.
