Juice=Juice Miyamoto Karin's goal 'A new form of idol' (Nov 2016)

Juice=Juice's Nippon Budokan performance was a huge success. 

We talk with central member Miyamoto Karin about their activities so far, and about the future.

- The drama broadcast happened as you were in the midst of your busy live tour.

Inside, I was really worried about the drama, because it touched on topics that shouldn't be treaded on by idols. What if people who watched the drama came to associate my role in the drama with me? Would the fans who watched it come to dislike me? It made me uneasy. We were given quite a difficult theme to wrestle with. I think that idols shouldn't be like that... doing things like falling in love, or not keeping up a constant level of cuteness, for example. But the drama presented areas that aren't like that... Having acted out my role, I feel that I'm better at bringing out the inner 'Miyamoto Karin'. Ever since the drama started, I feel that I've changed in how I approach MC segments at concerts.

－Your MC segments changed as you went through the drama?

Miyamoto
Yes. I became really direct. I started to make fun of the fans. (laughs) I started to say things that a good girl wouldn't say, things that I definitely wouldn't have said before.

－How was the response to the drama?

Miyamoto
The other members would get asked if they were from 'NEXT YOU' (the name of the group in the drama), but that never happened to me. (laughs) But many people at handshake events told me that they became fans after watching Budokan. A lot of them were girls.That made me happy.

Q1. Who is your favourite H!P member (including OGs)?

Kobushi Factory's Nomura Minami-chan. She's cute ♥ I like Nomusan. It's cute how she immediately juts out her chin when she gets teased about it.

Q2. What H!P song would you like to sing solo?

'Daite yo! Please Go On' (Goto Maki)

The rhythm looks like it's difficult, but it's a cool song, so I'd like to try singing it!!

Q3. Among the (current) H!P members, who would you like to go to the sea with, and what would you do?

I'd like to play with water guns with all of Kobushi Factory!!! I'd like us to split into teams and fight it out.

Q4. Who is the 'summer girl' amongst the (current) H!P members?
Kobushi Factory's Taguchi Natsumi-chan. Since her name has 'Natsu', the word for summer in it! Also, since I get the impression that she's a bit sunburnt!

Q5. If you were to come out with a photobook, please tell us where you'd like to go and what you'd like to do.
I'd like to have it shot at Australia's Crocosaurus Cove together with the crocodiles!! I'd enter the crocodiles' water tank and take photos together!

Q6. What is your treasure?

Family! They're my eternal treasure. 
They're the most precious thing to me.

Q7. Is there anything that you'd like to make a start on?
Going to a crocodile park. I've never been, so I'd like to aim for the crocodiles' mealtime!

Tsubaki Factory's Kishimoto Yumeno-chan: Since we're sunburnt buddies! Also, I like Kishimon's singing.

Q9. Please tell us what's the best thing about your own group.

That we're packed with individuality! ANGERME has lotttttttttttts of good things about us! If you get to know ANGERME, I'd like you to also take a look at our individual personalities!

Country Girls' Tsugunaga Momoko-san! I think that it's cool how Tsugunaga-san is able to self-produce herself. I really like her since I think that she's perfect as an idol.

Watching videos of it being performed live and at events, I think that the facial expressions required, the way it's sung, they're really at a high level. It's a bit difficult for me as I am now, so I'd like to sing it when I've raised my level a bit more.

Q3. Among the (current) H!P members, who would you like to go to the sea with, and what would you do?

Morning Musume。´16's Oda Sakura-chan!! I'm good friends with Ooda, but we haven't hung out as we haven't been able to make our schedules match... And so, I'd like to go to the sea and have kakigoori together ♥

Q4. Who is the 'summer girl' amongst the (current) H!P members?
Morning Musume。´16's Ishida Ayumi-san! Since she really likes watermelons! I think that Ishida-san goes well with watermelons and the sea.

Q5. If you were to come out with a photobook, please tell us where you'd like to go and what you'd like to do.
I'd like to have a photoshoot at the lovely beaches of Malaysia! Since Malaysia's seas were super duper pretty when I saw them on TV!

Q6. What is your treasure?

Family and friends! Family of course includes our cat 'Non-chan'. Family is definitely the most important. Friends always tell me interesting stories, and it's fun to spend the days with them.

Q7. Is there anything that you'd like to make a start on?
Piano and rhythmic gymnastics! Learning the piano will definitely develop my sense of pitch! It's important for singing. Doing rhythmic gymnastics will make my body more flexible, and I'd like to leverage that in my dancing.

We'll be a group that can do anything. We'll do our best, with Suzuki-san and Sato-san taking the lead in singing, Muro and Inabaccho bringing on the dance moves, and Uemuu and me for expressiveness! Kishimon's really upbeat, so the group would be fun with her around!

Q9. Please tell us what's the best thing about your own group.

The impact that comes from our 8 different personalities. Our songs and group name have an impact, and I like how all 8 of us are interesting, which leads to a very nice atmosphere

Kamei Eri-san. I admire everything about her! We've never had activities together as part of Morning Musume。, so I've only watched her as a fan, but she's a senpai whom I've learnt from.
Tsugunaga Momoko-san. Tsugunaga-san was the person who first turned me into a fan, and I also respect how serious she is when it comes to work.

I've got one reason. It's because I love this song!

℃-ute's Yajima Maimi-san. Since she's lovely, even when she's drenched in sweat! 

Q5. If you were to come out with a photobook, please tell us where you'd like to go and what you'd like to do.
I'd like to have a shooting together with my pet dog Kurara in a place that's full of beautiful greenery! I'd like to have a photo shoot that isn't of my true self, but after I've undergone a miracle change. 

Q6. What is your treasure?

I do have things that I treasure, but what's most precious are my memories. Memories of the time I've spent as Morning Musume。, as well as precious times with family. 

Q7. Is there anything that you'd like to make a start on?
I'd like to make concert goods! ... Since it makes me excited. Lots of deep pink goods!

Today, the two of us have a date at a summer festival. I'm looking forward to the fireworks show as well!
It seems that he got bashful seeing me in a yukata.

He'd returned! I was so happy that I could cry.

But tears really did flow after that. A fight started, and he got a sound beating.
'You don't talk that way with us again!'

After those guys left, just me and him remained.
'I'm sorry, that was pretty lame.'

He said that in apology. And yet, that wasn't the case at all.

'Anyway, let's get to somewhere that's a bit more quiet.'

To get away from the crowds, we went on top of a slightly distant hill.

'This has got to be the worst summer festival ever... ouch.'

'It's fine, stay still.'

I tended to his wounds, with tears in my eyes,

The sky suddenly exploded with light.
We raised our eyes, and the night sky was filled with fireworks.

'Could it be, we're at a good spot to watch the fireworks?'

'Yeah, like it's reserved for us. I guess we have those guys to thank.'

I could see the beautiful fireworks reflecting off his eyes as he said that with a laugh.

I'll let some time pass, and then maybe I'll go and buy yakisoba after that ♥

Tsugunaga Momoko: Her thoughts just before the hiatus (Berryz Kobo 2004-2015)

In the run-up to their hiatus, Berryz Kobo released one final photo book, 'Berryz Kobo 2004-2015'.

The contents include two page essays by each member, penning their thoughts on the hiatus.

Below is a translation of Berryz Kobo member Tsugunaga Momoko's thoughts on reaching an end.

For me, Berryz Kobo was where everything started. If it wasn't for Berryz Kobo, I wouldn't be who I am today. I think that the Momochi that you see on the variety circuit exists because Berryz Kobo existed. The 7 of us truly are special ♥ You could say that we have the same tastes, that things amuse us in similar ways.

Our final recording, our final cover shooting, our final music video, our final tour...... Now, we're in a state where the things that Berryz have continued to do for over 10 years are ending, one by one. While the thoughts are overwhelming me, I'm definitely feeling sadness at the same time.

It's sad to say goodbye due to our hiatus, and I'm sure that the fans feel the same way as well. But it wouldn't be very Berryz to be in the dumps because of that reason, and since there's so little time left, it would be such a waste to finish things with sadness. We definitely want to be earnestly fooling around until the very end!

Currently we're in the midst of deciding the setlist for the 3rd of March. Even for that Budokan performance, as much as possible, I'd like to end it with a fun mood. When it comes to setlists, we've recently been taking the lead more often in making the choices for them. It's not like we've become the people in charge of it, but often, the pattern would be that I'd point out to (Shimizu) Saki-chan, 'How about this?', and the 2 of us would discuss it. The other day, the two of us were discussing it in our hotel room, and we were like 'yup yup yup', until 5 in the morning. (laughs) A night with Saki-chan, just the two of us ♥ It was really fun to snack in the midst of it ♥ We couldn't make up our minds.

Deciding on setlists is unexpectedly troublesome. We've got the autumn tour, we've got our bus tour, we've got a dinner show... and in the midst of that, the first thing on our minds is, as much as possible, to not let the songs overlap. And while thinking about it, we'd be like 'We haven't done this song recently. But isn't it a bit too ancient?' or 'Would it be too much of a leap to go from a mature song to this one?' There are an infinite number of things to keep in mind.
